LG is looking to supply LCD panels for the rumored iPhone SE 2, according to a new report from TheElec. The company's panels are purportedly undergoing last-minute quality checks.
Previously, JDI and Sharp had supplied LCDs for the iPhone SE and LG had not shown much interest in providing panels for Apple's budget models. However, the company is undergoing heavy-duty reshuffling and restructuring and cannot afford to be picky, claims a market source.
"We understand that the initial orders will be small in size,” said another industry watcher. "In the past, when LG Display was supplying LCDs to high-end iPhones, the facilities were for mass-production.”
Apple has reduced its orders from LG ever since switching to Samsung's OLED panels. The company did start mass producing OLEDs for the iPhone in the second half of this year in Paju, Gyeonggi Province but only for a small percentage of devices.
The 'iPhone SE 2' is rumored to launch in early 2020.
