Warning: Don't Install watchOS 5.1, It May Brick Your Apple Watch

Apple has pulled watchOS 5.1 following numerous reports from users that the software update has bricked their Apple Watch.

Users on reddit describe getting stuck on the Apple logo after attempting an upgrade to watchOS 5.1. According to reports, Apple has sent out some replacement devices to those affected but many users are being told to send their smartwatch in for repair.

Redditor cmoonman writes, "Silver Stainless Steel series 4 stuck on Apple logo during update. I called apple and it has to be sent in for repair. I have a Apple store close and will take it tomorrow to have them send it off for the repair. They gave me the option for a shipping kit but said it wouldn’t arrive until Thursday."

ProdesseQuamConspici writes, "Aluminum GPS S4 here, same problem. Apple phone support had me unpair it from the phone and try the hard-reboot to no effect. Took it to the local Apple store. They sent it in for repair (said they weren't authorized to replace it for this problem)."

We'd advise not installing the watchOS 5.1 software if you've already downloaded it. Wait until Apple issues an update. You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for further developments.
