No 3D Touch for 6.1-inch LCD iPhone?

No 3D Touch for 6.1-inch LCD iPhone?

A research note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple's upcoming 6.1-inch LCD iPhone may not have 3D Touch functionality, reports Feng.com.

The 6.1-inch iPhone is expected to use 'Cover Glass Sensor' (CGS) technology which relocates the touch module from the display panel (in-cell) to the surface glass. This technology results in a display that's lighter and more shock resistant.

First, on this year's iPhone with a 6.1-inch LCD screen, Apple will use the CGS (Cover Glass Sensor) process, which means that the iPhone's touch module will indeed move from the display panel (in-cell process) to the surface glass. on. However, compared to other OGS and GFF plug-in touch technologies (the iPad Pro uses GFF technology), CGS has a smaller impact on the display effect, and is more impact-resistant and lighter.

Kuo says Apple is also planning to add a thin-film sensor in addition to the CGS touch sensor. It's unclear what the additional layer is for but it's expected to increase the cost of the touch panel by 15% to 25%, resulting in a purchase price between $23 and $26.

To offset the higher cost, Kuo thinks Apple will drop 3D Touch functionality for the 6.1-inch model.

So in order to offset the cost increase brought by the CGS process, Apple will remove the 3D Touch function on this year's 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, and Apple also plans to use the CGS process for all iPhones (including OLED models) in 2019. Future 3D Touch features may disappear from all iPhones.

Apple is expected to unveil a new 5.8-inch OLED iPhone, 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, and 6.5-inch OLED iPhone this fall. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

Hardly ever used it, but I think they can implement it with a long press like android does. The additional layers are pointless

About time they dump some useless gimmick in favor of real improvements.
