Uber Adds In-App Chat Between Riders and Drivers

Uber Adds In-App Chat Between Riders and Drivers

Posted August 10, 2017 at 4:59pm by iClarified
Uber has announced a new feature that will let riders and drivers chat right in the Uber app.

To chat with their driver en route, a rider should go to the Uber feed and tap “contact” and then “chat.” When drivers receive a chat from the rider, it will be read aloud to them. Drivers can acknowledge receipt with one tap to their app to send a “thumbs up” to their rider. That way, they can stay focused on the road. Both riders and drivers will see if their chats are delivered and read, helping to confirm the other actually received the communication.

Uber notes that the feature will let drivers and riders get in touch without sharing their phone number. It's rolling out globally over the coming weeks.

"This is our first step towards leveraging real-time-messaging to enable seamless communication experiences for our customers and help them connect in both the digital and physical worlds. Make sure you have the latest version of the app to use it and stay tuned for more updates!"

You can download Uber from the App Store for free.

Is it legal in uk to chat on phone while driving. What uber not focus on safe driving rather than chat. Why would you need to chat when both the driver and rider know where is the pick up and drop off points.....or they trying to make the apps more like a social media to make more money.???

Sometimes the app's location feature f*cks up, one big reason why the chat feature is a must. Just keep it safe! Driving texting = Death.

We already message and call them, or at least I do. I have keyboard shortcuts for most of the time, and other times I just Siri to dictate it. I also can type pretty well without looking at the screen.

As a driver, I already chat with them. I send them messages and call them. I just use keyboard shortcuts mostly and Siri to dictate. The rest I can type without really even needing to look at the screen.
