A new parody ad mocks the 2016 MacBook Pro for lacking all the things that pro users need. The ad highlights a lack of ports, memory limitations, no MagSafe, and more.

My 4 year old MacBook Pro has upgradable RAM, swappable hard drive, real ports and an optical drive which I can swap out for more storage. Even this 4 year old machine is more pro than the new MacBook Pro.

Only issue I've seen that matters is the 32GB. Other than that, these seem like awesome machines.

And when apple removed the superdrive, when they removed the headphone jack. They are the only company that has courage to push the industry forward. I dont know why so many jokes are being made about the new iphone.

My 2013 Pro feels more pro then the one they just released. 15" 16gb ram, 512gb SSD, 2 Thunderbolt/mini display ports, HDMI, SD card slot, USB 3.

I totally agree: the new pro is not really a pro... but somehow people who think they need to buy a new laptop (or new anything for that matter, just because it's new), will buy it.

I guess you haven't understood the RAM memory limitation issue. Read about it. It really concerns the video and photo editing professionals.

Soo carry your light laptop and 2kg worth of adaptors? You need to get the 15" for a Quad core, 16Gb of RAM is a joke. Ill stick to my bigger, but better Laptop and dual boot OSX

Tell that to the guy that understands what it takes for an Apple product to fail. It can't sell enough, it can't do much to compete, or it doesn't do anything that it tried to do. If MacBook Pro failed in some of these aspects, then it would probably be an honorable mention in the guys list. The 16GB ram though? It's not a joke or as much of one when it's optimized, but at the very least I can buy external ssd's and an owc internal ssd by the time they make one. I'll say this that it kind of made my MacBook Air a beast powerhouse.

MegaB - Even if you carry the OWC dock to get 13 legacy ports card slot etc. It's only .54 kilograms. But I'd opt to get the appropriate cables for Thunderbolt-3/USB-C to whatever. You need the cables anyway so it's not a huge extra burden now. Apple markets to their audience. My 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina wlll be replaced by a 2016 model. With 2 terabytes of the fastest SSD in any laptop. (independently tested) I use 16GB now and don't have too many issues. Admittedly I don't edit 4K video. But do deal with huge still images. Software development of large mobile apps, and more. Still videomaker.com recommends a minimum of 8GB RAM for offline editing of 4K video. and 32GB for online editing of 4K video. I'm betting 16GB and really really fast SSD will work out ok. But I can wait for the real world tests / reviews. And Adobe recommends a minimum of 4GB for video editing. So wow. for most people 16 GB should be fine. Similarly Adobe recommends 2GB minimum and other sites recommend 4GB for still photo editing. Adobe recommends 8GB if you can ... So again 16GB out to be fine. Myself, I peak at getting all 8 threads (Yea hyper threading!) nearly at 100% while building from scratch some large projects while also generating the doxygen documentation for the multiple projects in the workspace I am building. After about 30 seconds of this the fan starts to actually be audible ... I'll like the huge performance boost from the much more efficient architecture and SSD speed boost. It should only take 20-25% the current time for a clean and build cycle. What will I miss? Not a lot. I'll have to get a Thunderbolt-3 / USB-3 to Thunderbolt 2/1 adapter for the monitor and chain the raid drive off the monitor or maybe get a second Thunderbolt adapter, and maybe get a couple USB-C to USB-3 adapters (under $10 a pair) for the USB devices not handled off the Thunderbolt display now ... (and If I can swing it / justify it later get the 5K display and reuse the USB adapters) Seriously the only thing I use the SD slot for (as my cameras are old school or too cool, using compact flash or mSDHC which isn't always compatible with all SD slots, you'd think its addressed slower it should work, but no, not always) SO I use a USB 3 adapter that handles both anyway. And SD(HC) and ... several more obsolete formats. The SD card sticking out the side of the laptop, just asking for trouble. Won't miss it. If I wanted bigger and better I'd take my diminutive but powerful Mac Pro with me (Which I have done when warranted). 5 Kg but worth it. Of course the small raid system and a pair of 4K 32 inch monitors make the computer seem inconsequential (well the raid is even smaller and lighter, so blame the monitors), though to some clients I take an APC 1500 UPS because I like my hardware and they have rotten power, so that really takes it. The point is, it can't be everything to everyone. So dual boot into OS X (which is still against the license terms I'm pretty sure) and have fun. I like being able to have some quality hardware that in over 4 years now has been nearly perfect with only a very few issues. I wish Intel had had a processor that supported LDDR4 for mobile power requirements but they didn't ... So I'll have 16GB of memory on a machine that runs ten hours on a charge. And I'll take that over 2 hours and a battery check.
