MacBook Pro Touch Bar Uses Samsung OLED, Future Models Could Use OLED for Screen [Report]

Apple has reportedly used a Samsung OLED for its new MacBook Pro Touch Bar and is looking into using OLED for the display as well, according to ETNews.

According to an industry on the 31st, Apple installed Samsung Display’s OLED panel for touch screen bar for its new MacBook Pro. This panel is rigid-type OLED that is produced from Samsung Display’s A2 Line. It is heard that Driver IC was supplied by Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business Department and that its design was partially changed to link between a laptop and a touch bar.

“A reason why Apple has applied OLED panel to MacBook Pro’s touch bar is due to thickness of OLED panel.” said a representative for an industry. “Due to OLED panel’s structure, its thickness is three times thinner than LCD panel that has BLU (Back-Light Unit).”

Apple is also said to be considering OLED to replace LCD on future generation MacBooks and other major products.

“Apple is currently looking into ways of using OLED panels for MacBooks and testing their performance.” said a different representative.

ETNews believes Apple will rely more on Samsung for OLED displays in the future as the company has focused on producing small and medium size panels; whereas, LG Display has been supplying high resolution LTPS LCDs. It's said that both Sharp and LG are investing more resources into OLED in hopes of capturing future Apple orders.

Wish Apple will not use OLEDs in their iPhones, iPads and Macbook screens. OLEDs are oversaturated screens unlike IPS screens which displays accurate color representations. The only downside of IPS displays they are power hungry than OLEDs. For me I would still prefer IPS screens because it is like I said more accurate than OLEDs which is needed in print and design field. For ordinary consumers I always see they prefer OLED screens because they like brighter colors making images look fake. Let the OLED technology just stay in the Touch Bar.

Apple not really behind. Touch screens are in every laptops because Microsoft did it just like running Windows. This so-called gimmick touch bar is actually a touchscreen at your fingertips and can be functional keys to and has enough to use iOS functions and can even be used with trackpad. Samsung originated because of father Apple. They didn't make the touch bat though thereby not as innovative. Apple not really behind at all. Apple is what future tech truly is.

I like this so-called dongle and I can wait to use it to its full potential. Just wait and see what users can do with it unleashing the touch bar features.
