The Bluetooth Special Interest Group will officially announced Bluetooth 5 next week, reveals executive director Mark Powell in an email to Blue Maestro.
I’m pleased to tell you that on 16 June we will formally announce that the next version of Bluetooth will be marketed as “Bluetooth 5.” Veterans of the SIG will note that with this name we have dropped reference to both the version and point number in our marketing messaging. Our new naming approach is focused on simplifying our marketing, communicating user benefits more effectively and making it easier to signal significant technology updates to the market.
Bluetooth 5 will double the range and quadruple the speed of low energy Bluetooth transmissions. It will also provide significant new functionality for connectionless services like location-relevant information and navigation. By adding more capacity to advertising transmissions, Bluetooth 5 aims to propel the adoption and deployment of beacons and location-based services.
An upcoming media event to launch Bluetooth 5 will be held in London on 16 June. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

If only this came sooner for the iPhone SE. I'm hoping Apple makes Bluetooth available for any iPhone from here on so I can replace both the one in the SE with any future iPhone (if that's possible).
Apple does already have most parts for the iPhone 7 so there's nothing yet mentioned about what Bluetooth is going to be. You're darn right there will be innovation.
