Apple has reached a deal with seven Canadian banks including every one of the 'Big Five' to expand Apple Pay in the country.
“We are thrilled that seven of Canada’s leading banks, including … every one of the Big Five, are are bringing Apple Pay to their customers,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice-president of Apple Pay, in an interview.
Starting today, CIBC and RBC are supporting MasterCard, VISA, and American Express credit cards as well as debit cards on Apple Pay. ATB and Canadian Tire are supporting only credit cards as of today.
In the coming months, BMO, TD, and Bank of Nova Scotia have also agreed to support Apple Pay. There isn't a specific launch date yet.
This is a pretty major expansion for Apple Pay in Canada as previously it was only available to select American Express customers.
