Donald Trump: We're Gonna Get Apple to Start Building Their Damn Computers in This Country

Posted January 19, 2016 at 7:58am by iClarified
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he would get Apple to starting building their computers in the United States in a speech to students at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

During his speech, Trump stressed the importance of bringing manufacturing back to the United States.

Here's his comment about Apple...

"We have such amazing people in this country. Smart, sharp, energetic. They're amazing. I was saying make America great again. I actually think we can say now, and I really believe this, we're going to get things coming. We're going to get Apple to start building their damn computers and things in this country instead of in other countries. I honestly think I can say, and I've said it for the last two weeks, and I mean it 100% or I wouldn't say it. We're going to make America great again, greater than ever before."

What do think about Trump's statement? Should the government intervene to encourage or force companies to manufacture in the U.S.A.? Could Trump get it done if he was elected?

Manufacturing will never move back to North America. Greed is an all too powerful motivator. There are not enough tax incentives in the world to topple the almighty dollar. Besides, would the average American want/be able to afford a $2,000.00 handset?

$600+ dollars is a lot of money to pay for an iPhone already. Two year later already a new phone comes out, and now sales are down. Market is down. Computers (and phones I read) are still popular with Apple users but the competition is more popular as far as new innovations are concerned. That is how companies start to go down. Obsolescence is built into the new computers. Other companies have brought out touch computers... why hasn't apple? I noticed awhile ago Apple wasn't keeping up with the competitions, but the competition learned from Apple how to make more user friendly equipment. I have been with Apple since 1984 and I'm still a fan, but I see that Apple is not the same company it used to be. I may be forced due to economics and retirement to downgrade to a less expensive company in the future.

Well, then, we need to start teaching our population how to become computer engineers and repair people and builders, etc. It is a necessity to do this. Apple could start a program via universities to start teaching or do its own school, get credited if possible, and get started in educating this newer generation. It might take time, but eventually we can start manuafacturing here. What happens if the world really goes to pot and China is no longer an ally or we become part of them, after all we are in debt to them for a lot of money and if they call in their debt what will we do then? Be careful for whom you vote!

Absolutely, I am in favor of "helping" all industries move their manufacturing back to the U.S. through various tax incentives.

I think apple won't mind bring it back home, all they going to do in return is charge us more to buy it.

The government won't have to FORCE business to come back to America if they make the cormporate tax either no more or a lot less than it is. This is essential. I think the cost of these phones is plenty already. I know it is more expensive to make items in the USA but I think we are more inovative and can learn to make products in a quality but less expensive way. We need to hire more Americans here not in China.

I'd like to see him try? if it's cheaper to make an iPhone there, why move? If he REALLY want's to Bring Apple Back..it's simple-->CUT THE DAMN CORPORATE Tax!!! it's killing the American Business which is WHY..some Companies Jump Overseas. Obama doesn't give a Damn about this..but If you want to bring back Apple...i suggest you do that First.

In China I saw a guy deliver a fridge on a bicycle with a side car, being ridden by a guy who would have been on a few dollars a day wage. America would have 0% chance of achieving a similar feat, let alone successfully building Apple products in their own country.

I think that one day we all will pay for own stupidity, helping build other countries forgetting about their own USA....

Bullshit. If you were making millions of dollars overseas and it cost you millions of dollars to bring it home, you wouldn't bring it home either.

You know I don't agree with everything Trump has to say, and personally, I like Ben Carson the most. But if you think that any Barack Obama was a better president than last two, I would have to point to the evidence that our country is so fucked up right now. Most of the stuff he does is so unconstitutional. But I digress. I don't believe that Trump will be able to make Apple bring manufacturing to the US. Our products would be more expensive and we would have to wait a few years before we started seeing products prices come down.
