Google Photos Will Soon 'Free Up Space' on iOS By Moving Photos to the Cloud

Google has announced an upcoming update to Google Photos for iOS which will free up space on your device by storing your photos in the cloud.

Running out of space on your phone is the worst. You’re stuck constantly deleting apps, music, and pictures, just to make room for one more photo or video. Today, we’re making it easy to free up space on your phone, anytime you need. Just tap “Free up space” in Settings, and Google Photos will remove device copies of your backed up photos and videos.

Or Google Photos can keep track of your phone’s storage space for you. Get notified when your phone is running low on space, and easily remove the device copies of backed up photos older than 30 days right from the Assistant.

Your photos and videos will still be accessible when you're online. The update is rolling out now on Android and coming soon to iOS.

You can download Google Photos from the App Store for free.

Why would anyone want to store their personal photos on Google's servers? Google admits scanning gmail, photos, tracking users activities and sell users data to advertisers and government agencies.

Google photos is the best app so far, it would be nice if it runs in the background , I have notice that in order to take back you , Google photos needs to be running foreground..

This would be great -- except that iPhone users are still unable to delete Apple-specific apps such as Photos, Weather, and Calendar. I'd love to use Google Photos, but the Apple Photos app would still take up a wad of space on my phone...
