I'm a writer, and publish a fair number of books. I tried using Google Books to publish (in addition to other sites), but found it wasn't really supported. There was no way to search for the newest books, or to associate one book to another. Worse of all, I didn't sell a single book using it. I since removed my books from there.
Whatever you say about Apple, they know how to sell, and they push quality products. Google plays with ideas, but rarely develops and promotes them fully.
