Brazilian regulatory documents and photos shared by Blog do iPhone reveal how Apple's retail display units for the Apple Watch work.
The Apple Watches used for the display unit have a special band that incorporates a Lightning cable. The Lightning band connects to the hidden 6-pin diagnostic port on the Apple Watch and then to the display case.
When an app is opened on the Apple Watch, the connection relays data to the display unit's iPad, letting it display additional information about each watch feature.
The connection to the diagnostic port is likely used to charge the watch, possibly via the iPad or a battery that is built into the case. There is a port at the back of the device which could be used to charge the entire unit on a nightly basis.
The Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications (Anatel) has already approved the Apple Watch and the in-store display units indicating that Apple is preparing to launch the Apple Watch in the country sometime soon.
