Apple has banned the use of Selfie Sticks at its 2015 Worldwide Developer Conference just announced today.

The ban was first noticed by Chris Welch of The Verge. Apple posted it on WWDC's 'More' details page.

In addition, you may not use selfie sticks or similar monopods within Moscone West or Yerba Buena Gardens.

Before worrying about bringing your selfie stick to WWDC, you'll need to get a ticket first. Developers can apply for tickets via the WWDC website (developer.apple.com/wwdc/tickets) now through Friday, April 17 at 10 a.m. PDT. Tickets will be issued to attendees through a random selection process.

Does no photography means no more live blog from other websites?!

It didn't say no phones, I mean why would they do that? That would mean no way of accessing the keynote.

All these weird guesses below... it's so simple, you just can't let people wave a stick around in crowded places, somebody will get hit.

That depends what people really need that is enough to help them. Canes are a good examples. Selfie sticks, not to much.

I still say there's too much emphasis on safety everywhere you go. Life entails risk and nobody's going to live forever anyway. So big deal if it happens sooner. It's all the same in the end.

Ok. The real reason selfie sticks are banned is because it may get in the way of people taking pictures of the keynote or the camera men filming it, not to mention others may steal it from you and may whack you while in the keynote.

Security risk? Banned in a number of places such as Empire State Building, if you can't take photos why would need one unless it's something else.

Why are these sticks being banned in so many places all of a sudden? I've never used one but I don't see what the problem is. Seems like just part of a trend towards excessive restrictions on personal freedoms.

In case those make it obvious someone is accidentally captured in someones photo!

I'm not sure I get that, but still sounds like a mighty lame excuse to ban the things.

Or it may hit someone.

If you're somewhere and you see the sticks waving around and don't like it then leave or else just watch where you're going. I'm sure in most cases you can see the things and avoig getting hit. If you're too slow, well tough luck. I'm just sick of this whole security/safety culture and would rather see things go back to the way they were 100 years ago or maybe even more like 10000 years ago.

What's wrong with having to watch where the hell you're going? And you can take that whole culture of lawyers and lawsuits and shove that too. You got a beef with someone? Settle it with a good fight or a duel.
