Avid Announces Free Version of Pro Tools [Video]

Avid has unveiled Pro Tools | First, a free version of the popular Pro Tools audio application used by artists and recording studios worldwide.

Delivering on Avid Everywhere and built upon the Avid MediaCentral Platform, Pro Tools | First is simple enough for beginners to learn, yet sophisticated enough for the experienced musician. Pro Tools | First enables anyone to experience the industry’s most trusted digital audio workstation at no cost, so they can turn their musical ideas into fully realized, professional productions that stand out from the crowd.

As you might expect, Pro Tools | First only includes a subset of the features found in the full version of the software. It supports just 16 audio tracks and is missing score editing and video playback. Additionally, there are only 21 audio effect plugins included but you can pay extra to purchase additional bundles. While the application saves and manages sessions securely in the cloud, Avid only offers Pro Tools | First users the ability to keep three projects in the cloud for free.
