Chevy's recently unveiled 2016 Volt features Apple CarPlay integration, notes The Verge.

It's no secret that GM will be rolling out support for both CarPlay and Android Auto, but we haven't seen it on a production GM model — until now. The 2016 Volt on the stand at Detroit's North American International Auto Show this week has an in-car entertainment system that includes support for both CarPlay and MirrorLink; both systems appear as options in the vehicle's Settings menu. Android Auto is missing, but there's plenty of time to add it — the Volt won't be on the road until the middle of this year.

The 2016 Chevy Volt uses an all-new Voltec extended range electric vehicle (EREV) propulsion system. Owners should be able to drive more than 1,000 miles on average between gasoline fill-ups with a total estimated driving range exceeding 400 miles, 50 of those in all-electric mode. The vehicle has a new, 192-cell/18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and new, 111-kW two-motor drive unit, the Voltec system is up to 12 percent more efficient and approximately 100 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the previous system. It also goes from 0-60 in 8.4 seconds.

If you want access to Apple CarPlay and don't want to buy a new car. Check out these offerings from Alpine and Parrot. You may also want to check out this tweak from Adam Bell that turns your iPad into a CarPlay device.

We'll have more updates as support for CarPlay expands to more vehicles, manufacturers, and third party receivers. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
