iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Outscore Galaxy S5, Top DxOMark Mobile Camera Test

The new Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have taken the first and second place spots in the DxOMark mobile camera test, outscoring the Samsung Galaxy S5 which previously held the number one spot along with the Sony Xperia Z2 & Z3.

The iPhone 6 devices scored 82 points, three points higher than any previous smartphone has been able to obtain.

From our industry-standard series of tests both in the lab and real world use, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus perform very similarly. They have very good, generally reliable auto-exposure in a wide range of lighting conditions and they have both fast and accurate autofocus. Output from the 8-Mpix stills improves the high level of detail in both outdoor and indoor lighting. In low light, noise reduction is handled well with images revealing fine-grained luminance noise and little of the distracting color (chroma) noise.

Notably, while the optical image stabilization on the iPhone 6 Plus helps reduce noise in still photos, it does introduce a video stabilization artifact.

The main differences between the 2 cameras come from the OIS present in the iPhone 6 Plus. On one hand, the OIS helps to increase still images exposure time in low light, leading to better noise performance. Ghosting on HDR images also seems smaller with the iPhone 6 Plus, probably helped by the OIS that ensure a good registration between images. On the other hand, we have observed a video stabilization artifact, on the iPhone 6 Plus, most likely linked to the OIS control that lead to a video stabilization score slightly lower for the iPhone 6 Plus than for the iPhone 6.

As expected.... Since this is an apple appreciation blog site.... Of course apple will always be top or appreciation for Samsung or other android based phones will be appreciated.... So pips don't easily believe in what this apple or samsung or any other product non official blog sites post but to actually go to a phone shop and check those displayed phones before buying....

I am very likely an apple sheep kind of person. Since the first windows mobile I've only used iPhones. After investing so much on either App Store, it would be a costly decision for anyone to make. I have used android, and it just seems choppy after a while. The new phones google is manufacturing my solve that, as I'm sure they will make sure the OS will operate smoother on their phone design. I would like to see what they can do. It's ok to like different OS, and phones. I encourage anyone who hasn't tried the iPhone 6 to check it out. Is it impossible Apple might have made the best phone? If those of you out their calling others names won't review it yourselves before judging it, then find a Shepard, because you aren't as enlightened as you think. Besides. Hating others for their phone choices? That sounds like some other personal feeling of inadequacy.

You keep trying to prove things by saying "real world". But the thing is, the real world is where Apple still has the highest profit share because real world people are willing to buy their products. Apple is making money, Samsung is losing money. And in the real world, people can tell that Samsung is now desperate, from the type of ads it makes. That's the real world. It is you who cannot comprehend.

Is that how you call your new iPhone sFlex, is it because you can bend it around the corners to take the best pictures in the world. Google bendable, miss type before cause I was using my 5 years old iphone 5, my hands are too big.

i just got the iPhone 6. I've never owned a Samsung so I can't really compare. However at 60fps, the video was the best I've ever seen, I did show the video to my friends who own Galaxy's The were as impressed as I was. Not knocking any other brands, just very impressed with this phone so far. Much better then any other iPhone
