A list of some of the new features found in the developer seed of iPhone OS 3.1 has been compiled by the iPhone Blog.
Currently known changes: - Non-destructive video editing now gives you the option to trim your clip then “Save as copy…” rather then replacing the original clip. - Voice Control now works over Bluetooth - iPhone vibrates when moving icons - Updated AT&T profile to 4.2 - Updated modem firmware to 5.08.01 - Improvements to OpenGL and Quartz. - APIs to allow third party apps to access videos and edit them.
If you have found anymore changes or improvements please let us know in the comments so we can add to the list.
IMPORTANT: The baseband update to 5.08.01 likely means the ultrasn0w unlock has been blocked. Please do not immediately update when this firmware goes public
You know whats going to happen is Apple is going to release a new version every month for the next 10 months up to 3.9 and fix minor things but the real goal is to keep Dev Team from Unlocking 3GS.
I don't care too much for the feedback when I'm typing, but I actually would like it when I select an app to open it, or for things that are similar to that.
What I want to see is some changes to the UI, maybe some themes and the ability to customize the iPhone and make it you're own without having to jailbreak it.. They didn't change the UI or even the physical appearance of the phone, it's like a slap to the face.. You're iPhone is just another phone in the sea of iPhones.. It needs personality!
Good question
"Normally, when a user interacts with a device such as a computer, he or she receives feedback when entering in data by feeling the keyboard keys move and generate resistance, and feeling the mouse button click when depressing it. For a user comfortable with such a system, typing on a non-moving touchscreen keyboard may feel uncomfortable or awkward, lacking the expected feedback. To compensate for this, devices with haptic feedback use small vibrations to let the user know when each keystroke is entered."
I tried it on the samsung and it made the touchscreen feel like a keyboard. I must say I wish the Iphone had it, but I guess it wont since it would have to vibrate under the screen and not the whole phone.
No, the iPhone vibrates when you are in the "moving app icons around on the Springboard" mode.
I suppose it's just meant to let you know you're in that mode.
Some of you people don't seem to get it.. If you update to 3.1, you will not be able to unlock your phone, but you will be always be able to jailbreak it (granted you did a USB dump) If unlocking your new iPhone is important to you, I suggest waiting until Dev-Team comes out with a way to update to 3.1 without updating your modem firmware. And as they stated before, a 3GS jailbreak has not been released because they are waiting until more people have a 3GS. Patience is a virtue..
Yea, you'll always be able to jailbreak it. Just make sure you prep for it by doing a USB dump (tutorials are available on this site) and you're golden.
I would imagine that when the fw 3.1 is released it would activate the long awaited mms feature. If you notice AT&T profile has been updated to 4.1. Making it hard for jailbroken iPhones on AT&T network not to update.
You can only hope that the carrier update will enable MMS and Tethering on the iPhones. I'm starting to get really irritated about not being able to send and receive MMS when my phone is fully capable of it now.
Seeing as we already have full use of MMS and Tethering here in Canada, AT&T can't be far off.. I am 99% sure that the next update will enable it for you guys.
I'm happy to see that apple added the save as a copy feature when editing videos. I hope they eventually add the ability to cut out middle segments of the videos and a stack copy and paste so you can do more than one item at a time, I mean why not use the 3gs added ram and processing power.
Dev-Team is there any way you guys can release the jailbreak for the 3GS? dont this prove that the hole is patched? i just cant see why wait to release the jailbreak anymore
thanks all your hard work and dedication!
Love to see it happen now! Had the 2G and decided to get the 3GS last week on the idea that the DEV Team would have this all set. I have one APP I run that needs the JB but also like Winterboard to have some options. MAYBE they or GEOHOLZ will release something?
