A new report by Fortune reveals that the Palm Pre syncs seamlessly with iTunes just as an iPhone or iPod would. The only exception is that it can't accept old copy protected songs.
Fortune notes that there have been third party programs that perform the same service for various non-Apple devices; however, Palm has apparently built the necessary code right into the Pres firmware.
This was probably an easy task for the many former Apple employees working at Palm and of course president Jon Rubinstein, who built the original iPod for Steve Jobs.
How Apple will respond to this remains to be seen. Preventing other devices from interfacing with iTunes may be a bit tricky legally.
