Apple is extending its company trademark to include jewelry and watches ahead of a rumored iWatch device, notes MacRumors.

Last June, Apple began registering for 'iWatch' trademarks; however, it is now updating its actual company name registration to cover jewelry and watches.

Trademarks are broken down into 45 classes of goods and services. Class 14 covers Precious metals and their alloys and goods in precious metals or coated therewith, not included in other classes; jewellery, precious stones; horological and chronometric instruments. Although some of the 'APPLE' trademark registrations already included goods from Class 14, the registrations are being broadened. For example, in Ecuador, Apple filed to expand the 'APPLE' trademark to cover the following Class 14 goods:

--
jewelry; watches; watches; goods in precious metals or coated therewith; cufflinks or cufflinks; keychains; timers; brooches in precious metals or coated therewith; ornaments in precious metals or coated therewith; tie pins in precious metals or coated therewith; tie clips or tie clips of precious metal or coated therewith; badges of precious metal or coated therewith; bracelets of precious metal or coated therewith; Necklaces in precious metals or coated therewith; medals in precious metals or coated therewith; short chains and ornaments in precious metals or coated therewith; buttons in precious metals or coated therewith; clip in precious metals or coated therewith; boxes of precious metal or coated therewith; decorations in precious metals or coated therewith; jewelry; sculptures and precious metals products.

MacRumors found a nearly identical filing in Mexico in early January that also focused on Class 14. In Norway, Apple applied for registration in an additional seven classes including Class 14 and in the U.K., Apple applied for registration in over a dozen new classes, again including Class 14.

Recent predictions have Apple releasing the iWatch in Q3 2014. It's said to come in 1.3-inch and 1.5-inch sizes to accommodate different sized wrists. More details here.
