Check out this chart that compares the specifications and price of the new iPad mini to the competition.
While Apple's display is 0.9-inches larger than its competitors, the device is priced $170 higher than Kindle Fire HDX and Google Nexus 7 II. It's $199 more than the Galaxy Tab 3 and $260 more than the Kindle Fire HD.
Notably, Apple decided to increase the price of the new iPad mini by $70 due to its new Retina Display.
This is foreseen! It's still the same strategy like the iPhone 5c. Price it high during launch, premium pricing etc. Then depending on which market it is sold in, adjust with discounts. This keeps the impression of the premium price all round but also allows for competitive pricing depending on where it is required.
Competition?! 7" is a completely different size than 7.9" - 8". Stupid comparison. Compare 7.9" with 7.9"-8". Just look at the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" - something around $300 with only a 1280x800 display, or Samsung Galaxy Note 8", or an Acer Iconia A1 7,9" for around $180 - but with low end hardware and way too heavy. 7" best value for money is the ASUS MeMo Pad HD - $149 - better than the Nexus 7 and close to the Nexus 7.2 which is more expensive - $229. An 7,9" Asus MeMo Pad HD for $199 would be fine. What would be the price of an Nexus 8" - $299 or more? So almost like the iPad mini 2 with Retina Display.....
If Apple wishes to keep in line with the competition, it needs to lower the price of the new iPad mini2 to the price of $299.00 rather than $399.00 as proposed. This move would increase their market share and improve its image with the people who want to remain loyal to Apple and its products.
I have gotten used to about a $100 "Apple tax" over the rest of the market but now they are approaching $200 effectively doubling the price of its competition.
I really like the new mini but its harder and harder to just accept the price gouging.
The new mini is $170 higher than the Nexus 7 and Fire HDX 7 (its most closely similar competitors). It is $200 more than the current Galaxy Tab 3, and $260 more than the Fire HD. My point was simply that the larger iPads always launch with the same price point as the previous year, even when the upgrade to retina occurred. That is why i said its approaching $200. Its all shown in the chart in this article. I have an iPad 2 from work and I wanted to get the new mini for home, but its harder to justify the price difference. I like the mini but not for $400.
Correct Kindle Fire HDX resolution is:
8.9" HDX display (2560x1600) with unsurpassed pixel density (339 PPI) .
Not sure how one could make such glaring mistakes.
64bit allows your OS to read/use more than 4GB of shared memory. Shared memory includes the bus memory that CPU uses memory on graphic engine unit. So if you have 4GB memory on your PC with graphic card that has 1GB RAM, your bus memory will be only seen as less than 3GB. Unless you use 64bit. Now 64bit on iOS? Hmmmm why giving harder time for secs to rewrite their apps into 64bit when Apple obviously gonna take at least another 2 generations to reach up to 4GB shared memory.
