Jefferies analyst Peter Misek says that Apple will begin production of the iPhone 5S at the end of the month, reports BusinessInsider.

He says the new iPhone is likely to be released in either late September or early October. It's not going to help the September quarter. He also says Apple has already begun production of its lower-cost iPhone, which he believes will sell for $300-$400, without a subsidy. At that price, it's more a mid-tier phone, and "it will not be competitive in emerging markets"

Misek believes that Apple will order 50-55 million iPhones in Q4 composed of 25 million iPhone 5S units, 20 million low-cost iPhone units, and 5 million iPhone 4S units. According to his checks, Apple has been shifting orders to reduce those of the iPhone 5S in favor of increasing low-cost iPhone orders.

The more I look at iOS7 the more it convinces me. However, I think the hospital sterile look to it will get old right away. I wish they would at least come with 2 or 3 color options. Leaving the rest as is. It's just boring after a while no matter how nice, especially the hospital and funeral parlor sterility of it. The rest of it looks awesome and I love the new features they incorporated in it. I can't wait for the finished product.

dude, think about how colorblind some people are, or maybe some people are tired of the same looking apps, but thanks to them, some people think apple make a wrong turn.

Why would someone buy a lesser quality iPhone for only $100 off? If they're that pressed for money , they can either get the iPhone 5 or buy a Samsung. The 'cheap' iPhone is the new managements attempt to fracture their current market to compete with Samsung's 'new phone of the week'.

I'm not sure either, but maybe they're going to stop selling previous models as the cheaper alternative (like now you can buy a 5, a 4S and still the 4), and just have the current model and the cheaper version. But in any case I think it'll be more than $100 off when you compare apples to apples, i.e. cash prices (no contract) for a brand new 5S versus a brand new iCheap. To be honest I'll probably be buying the cheaper ones, I don't really care about all the super-duper stuff on the phone since I just use it for music, messaging, and scanning emails mostly. I'd be even happier if they came out with a much smaller one since I use an iPad for video, but I know that won't happen.

Read the article it says they're ordering 5 million 4S so they're obviously not phasing them out. The lower cost iPhone be it $100 is for emerging markets like India et al. Where $100 can be a few m

If you're on Beta 3, that's good until sometime in late August, I don't remember exactly when, I think it expires on August 28 or something like that... but in any case there will be the next Beta upgrade long before that, and that will have a later expiry date. If you're not on Beta 3, you should definitely upgrade to it as it is MUCH more stable and overall better than the previous versions.
