Tavis Mccourt, managing director of equity research at Raymond James, shares some interesting charts comparing sales of the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
In his report, Tavis says, "iPhone shipments since 2010 (when Samsung launched the Galaxy line) still dwarf Galaxy sales, but Samsung is closing the gap," reports Barrons.
Notably, the only time Galaxy sales exceeded iPhone sales was just before the iPhone 5 release. Mccourt believes that the iPhone will outsell the Galaxy this quarter but that Samsung will pull ahead next quarter.
Look, I have had both phones, and this is what I see.. iPhone was the first to have cool stuff yes, but then android caught up and passed them by. Every year I see apple promising new amazing things for their next phone, but when the phone comes out it has nothing they promised. It's always the same phone but (this time), just a bit bigger..with maybe a few MINOR changes. Every time Android releases a new phone it takes me days to learn all the new things they have added. It seems to me that samsung/android researchers are working their asses off full time to come up with as many cool new things as they can possibly imagine.. lots of new BIG changes, and even the many little simple things we use every day that no one else would have thought to add, but they make our life easier and more fun! They listen to customers feedback and requests and ideas and they bring it to life and MAKE IT HAPPEN. While the apple researchers aren't creating any new features for their customers. I also have learned that because the galaxy's are plastic & glass (rather than all glass like the iphone), the Samsungs last longer, get less cracks, they don't shatter when u drop them, they bend easier in ur pocket without breaking, and they are lighter. Some ppl think it's cheap to be plastic, but they actually changed it to plastic on purpose because it's better and less breakable! I see iPhone now as an over priced simple smart phone that is good for ppl who don't want anything too complex and they don't want it to change each year. I see samsung/android as a fairly priced, durable smart phone that is being improved in multiple ways every single year and gaining more customers by the day. Take down a list of all the new features and options and gadgets that the adroid has to offer, then make a list of all the new features the iPhone has to offer.. iPhone has come up with about 6 minor changes in the past 4 years, and Android has over 20 amazing added features in that same amount of time... and for less money. Including a FULLY waterproof phone (meaning it can be fully submerged for up to 1 hr.), built in heart monitor w/health app, huge screen, way better picture, ability to be tv remote, more bendable and durable, so many cool camera features and options I can't even name them, better apps, free music, hundreds of ways to customize every single part of the phone INSIDE and out, they take SD cards so u have more gigs and can swap em out just like a digital camera so ur memory never runs out, the list goes on and on. But you won't really get it untill you have tried them both. Untill you have truely tried them both, your input is basicly worthless because your only stating a one sided bias opinion. I did love my iphone alot when I got it... but when I saw how much harder the adroid ppl were working to please their customers vs how many broken promises apple has been making..all while charging more... i switched to android just to try it out. It costed me way less and now that I have experienced all these new amazing features I could never go back to the iphone unless they catch up and atleast match them and have all the same things. But at this rate.. i doubt if they'll ever catch up. Their name is all they have at this point.. but that won't keep em up for much longer, they are eventually gonna have to start researching new ideas and big changes for their upcoming phones or their phone sales will continue to decrease. I just got sick of seeing everyone around me that had a Samsung phone doing this and that and all this cool stuff that my iPhone couldn't do, and I paid way more for it! It's simple really... don't just focus on the "name" on the phone... just sit back and view which one has more to offer for the amount of money they're charging, and which one is likely to last longer? U want a simple phone that always stays the same? Get an iphone. You want a customizable phone that's always advancing and changing and has cool new things added every year? Get a samsung.
I love my Samsung, easyto use and loaded of free apps, I had Iphone before but now I will stick with Samsung after compare aplle to apple, Iphone still not a choice for me no more.
Galaxy one of the Samsung's smartphones but not all what they have like apple's Iphone .... You can compare the sales of smartphones in 2012 and you will see the difference.
actually, i love galaxies and im 100% android but apple invented the computer craze, they invented the first ever mass produced home computer and are the daddy of computers. yes they are a bit stuck on what to put in their phones but they pretty much INVENTED computers. bill gates used to work for apple for gods sake, he's the cheat!... mind you, i am 100% microsoft too in terms of laptops and PC's!
The HTC One is a terrific replacement for my iPhone 4s. Checked out the iPhone 5 and it comes across like a little kids toy. Too narrow, weird looking long shape and same boring iOS. So limited and crippled. Why Apple? Why do we have to spend days jailbreaking and unlocking and tweaking our iPhones? Used to love you Apple, not anymore. Not after all of the lawsuits, limitations and blocks you put on users. Oh and the freak-show that is iTunes. Bye Apple, it was fun but time to move on to next-gen technology!
@Zephyr: I don't exactly see how Android is "unstable". In addition to that, I'd rather have a plastic device with cutting edge tech than a glass and aluminum brick with an OS that hasn't significantly evolved in the last 4 years.
I'd also rather have a device that'll let me do whatever I want with it, that lets me install the apps I want on it even if the manufacturer doesn't like them. (Checkmate, appstore)
tl;dr S4 > i5
Deal with it.
Music ranks number 2 in the top 10 list of thgins I actually use my Nokia N8 for just behind the camera of course, games are way down the list for me, games are relegated to situations like waiting around at the DMV or being stuck on jury duty. Just a though I really would like to see this article expanded into say a poll on what everyone really uses there phone for on a day to day basis.
Samsung is bullshit. Because Apple is always a good Phone. And there is a big difference between in Samsung & Apple graphics. Hats off to Apple. Love u
People keep saying "android phones outsell the iPhone" (emphasizing the word "phone>s<). As in one iPhone (3 models in this chart) against every phone that runs android OS. Looking at those numbers the iPhone doesn't look like its ever going anywhere while every android phone literally without fail (accept HTC which is actually the only real competition to the iPhone) always decreases in value roughly 3 months after launch.
Well things are gonna change here apple. They are so many good functions in samsung but the best part it has 13 mp camera what more need I say. Wished apple iphone 5 had done that. R.i.p apple I am sure you will be out of the game pretty soon and I dont wanna be a part of it. Steve jobs we miss you wish you were here.
@pod5G, if you can't tell the difference between a 3.2MP and a 13MP picture quality then there must be something wrong with you, I do agree with some of the comments that there won't be much difference to the naked eye but surely the picture is going to look amazing on the 5inch screen and that's a fact.
