Over $635,000 in Counterfeit 'Lightning' Cables and Adapters Seized in Alaska

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized over $635,000 worth of counterfeit 'Lightning' cables and adapters in Anchorage, Alaska, reports Alaska Dispatch.

The goods arrived in Alaska via plane from China, and were heading toward several locations in the continental U.S. Designed to look like iPhone 5 USB “lightning” connector cables and adapters, the products included fake Apple logos and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) trademark icons.

The items were spotted as counterfeits because they were packaged in cardboard blister packs unlike the traditional white packaging used by Apple.

The CBP says that although its “difficult to deal with a manufacturer in another country,” the bust will “bring more scrutiny” to future shipments from the company.

The seized items will be destroyed by the CBP.

These are after market cables . Nothing to do with lightning and apple chip

Amazon got them for 3 dollars each and eBay 8 dollars just need to search better.

There is no way I'm paying 19.99 for a data cable. Apple should have used micro USB in the first place. Bring on the $1.99 China knock-offs.

Why can't they make after market cables why does it have to be from apple and apple only!! It's not out fault apple slacked on supplying these!! For a few months there you couldn't get one!!

Apple has a right to protect it's investment. These cables were going to be sold as Apple cables. That is blatantly wrong! If you had done your homework, you would know that Apple patented the cable with a chip inside it. They also have set up a process for companies to submit their product to Apple for verification. Don't get me wrong. I own cables that re not Apple certified. The difference is they weren't being sold as Apple products.
