Conditions Begin to Improve at Foxconn and Other Chinese Factories

The New York Times reports that there are signs of changes taking hold in Chinese electronics factories.

An article posted recently details a few of those improvements such as: protective foam sprouted on low stairwell ceilings inside factories, automatic shut-off devices on whirring machines, chairs with more support for workers, wage increases and more.

Most of these changes are due to increasing pressure on Apple to improve conditions in the factories that produce its devices. "The days of easy globalization are done," said an Apple executive who requested anonymity. "We know that we have to get into the muck now."

The Fair Labor Association made recommendations for 360 remedies that Foxconn should carry out. In an August report, Foxconn had carried out 284 of those improvements.

Check out the video below in which the NYT visits a HP factory and talks with employees from a Foxconn factory that makes iPads.
