Google Says It's Matched App Store With 700,000 Apps

Google has reportedly matched Apple with over 700,000 applications available for its Android devices, according to Bloomberg.

Google Inc. said there are about 700,000 applications available for downloading onto mobile devices that run the Android operating system, challenging Apple Inc. lead in the race for software tools.

That means Google has matched Apple in the number of games, productivity tools and other programs that are usable on handheld electronics, including tablets and smartphones. Apple said last week that its App Store has more than 700,000 apps.

Google recently announced a new Nexus 4 smartphone by LG , a new Nexus 7 with HSPA+, and a Nexus 10 tablet by Samsung.

While I love my Apple products, I have to say, you guys are wrong about the Play Store. I have been using a Galaxy Nexus instead of my iPhone for the past 8 months, and I've found it to be superior to the iPhone for my own uses. Not for everyone, just for me. That being said, Android apps have improved a lot since version 1 and 2. Jelly Bean has some incredibly well done apps, many cross-platform and many Android only. Sure, there's shit on both platforms. But the apps I've been using on a day to day basis are just as good if not better than their iOS counterparts. And malware is nonexistent. Facebook on Android sucks. But they're working on improving that. That's pretty much the only outlier.

Yup! I made the equation and the number makes sense: 10,000 'software classics' 690,000 software garbage = 700,000 apps!

Who the F*** cares about 700,000 apps when 90 pct is garbage anyways. No one cares about how many. We care about the quality of the ones we download.

Who cares, 99% of apps don't even get downloaded once.
