T-Mobile USA Begins Stocking Nano-SIMs for Unlocked iPhone 5s

Posted October 7, 2012 at 4:51pm by iClarified
T-Mobile USA has begun receiving stock of nano-SIM cards for unlocked iPhone 5s, reports The Verge.

Several T-Mobile stores in New York City informed us that the diminutive SIM cards were delivered today, but if you're interested in moving your iPhone 5 to T-Mobile you would do best to call your local store first: a couple of locations told us that it would take a day to add the cards to their inventory. Stock also appears to be limited at this point -- one store employee said they had ten nano-SIMs available.

Most of T-Mobile's network will only support the iPhone on 2G; however, the company is slowly refarming its network to 1900MHz HSPA+ which will support the iPhone.

I just bought an iphone 5 verizon. I activated it with aT-Mobile sim. Yes, they are factory unlocked. Here in Phoenix, T-Mobile works way better reception wise than AT&T. So, yes, while simple mobile may be cheaper going with the att option, youre voice reception will be shit. And I've been dealing with the 2g service since my first iPhone, and I've had every one. All this is supposed to change next year. Guess we'll see.

I love my 4s and I love Sprint.
Why
Why - October 8, 2012 at 6:37pm
Because apple want T-mobile to buy a lot of iPhone's . T-mobile don't want to buy 30 million iPhones . The only reason sprint got the iPhone In the first place is because they sign a 20 billion dollar iPhone deal .

I just singed up for T-Mobile's unlimited everything and I have an unlocked iPhone 4 that used to be on AT&T. I do agree the service with T-Mobile is spotty as hell and they are being very slow in rolling out the 1900 band. Just this week, they have rolled out the 1900 near my area (Houston Tx 77044). I've done some speed test and I've maxed 6.20 Mbps DL and 4.35 Mbps UL. Way faster than my previous AT&T service. I don't plan to upgrade to iPhone 5 so I am good for now. Btw, I am one of those data hogs and I used to reach 30-45Gb a month when I was on AT&T. So, T-Mobile's 1900 band looks promising.... Even for late technology. Besides, in this case I care for quantity but with usable quality.

wow maybe posting iclarified comments from the iclarified app isnt the best idea lol But if you buy a no contract AT&T iPhone 5 from the apple store at full cost ($649 16gb, $749 32gb and $849 64GB) as long as you activate with any non AT&T sim card it will activate as an unlocked device (DO NOT ACTIVATE INITIALLY WITH AN AT&T CARD, IT WILL LOCK TO AT&T), if you do activate with AT&T initially its about $15 to unlock through ebay sellers (I use unlockingcell)

Straighttalk is way better. Simplemobile is too "simple" with no 3G support.

TMobile keeps making one mistake after another, and I don't know how they would pull out of this hole. The miscalculation on the 3G frequency nearly did them in if not for the loyalties of their customer base. Now that everyone moves to LTE, they are toiling with band 2 of LTE spectrum, which is not on the list of the 7 bands supported by Qualcomm chipset in iPhone5. Yet they continue to try to lure people in with their unlocked new iPhone5 with the great promise of cheaper service. I did the math, it's true that one would get the comparable service for $10.00 cheaper ($59.95 vs. $69.95) when compared to Verizon or ATT, but the if the 24-month contract is to be factored in, it's a wash when people have to buy the unlocked iPhone 5 at $649. However, the scariest part part of it all is none of iPhone 5 sold by Apple currently support band 2 LTE that TMobile is still trying to get the license for. The result is they will continue to lie to unsuspecting customers in hope they will buy into the meager discount, only to find out the handset is not usable for LTE. I currently use ATT and don't like their coverage/3G speed at all. I recently had a chance to test the LTE speed of Verizon in one of the most impoverished areas of Southern California, with my friend's new iPhone 5. The worst download speed I got was 15Mbps, upload was a whopping 17Mbps. In better, more affluent areas, the download sped is an astonishing 25Mbps. The best ATT home internet service I got is 12Mbps. For the record, Verizon and ATT wireless services are about the same. Also for the record, Verizon does not lock out the SIM, which means you can take the phone overseas and use foreign SIM, from day1. I was pulling for TMobile all along and hoping they would see this through, but I am afraid they would fold eventually form these serious, multiple sequential mistakes.

I had tmobile until the iPhone 3GS then on the 4 I moved to Verizon. One of the best choices I've made in my life. I don't think it's very appealing to people to move your meant-for-lte iPhone to a 2g network. It's defeats the whole main purpose of the iPhone 5

Agree. Also people use the phone on Tmobile because they believe that it is the cheapest carrier. Truth is tmobile sucks. It has bad coverage area and price is still too high for the ancient techonology they provide to their users. Best thing to do is buy a GSM iPhone and go with StraightTalk for 45$/mon Unlimited. No need for unlock either.

it's true, I have been using Simple mobile for about 3 months which runs on T-mobile's network. $50 a month and only gets 2G on iPhone. Then I switched to Straight talk, which runs on AT&T's network, you don't have to unlock your iPhone. Also I get 3G on iPhone 4, which is fast enough to use Skype video call that I use to make calls to Asia from US. If you are using iPhone 4s you can even get 4G. I think currently Straight Talk is the best deal.
