Apple to Use Its Thousands of Retail Employees to Help Fix Maps

Apple appears to be working on a program which will utilize its thousands of retail employees to help fix Maps.

MacRumors has learned that Apple is piloting a program to tap into its vast number of retail store employees to help improve the company's new Maps app for iOS 6. Details on the initiative remain unclear, but multiple sources have indicated that participating stores will dedicate 40 hours of staff time per week, distributed among a number of employees, to manually examine Apple's mapping data in their areas and submit corrections and improvements.

One source told the site that a team of ten employees would be participating in the program at a store with one of the ten designated as a "subject matter expert" who would oversee the team and receive specific training on how to operate.

The changes to Maps will reportedly be submitted through an internal portal.

As a rural user of google maps and then iPhone from day one I can remember the days when google maps had cloud cover over many parts of uk. My parents home in the Orkney islands couldn't be seen for the same cloud covered image for years. I think apple could have made a better job however if it had bought up a service like Waze with crowd source data improving the maps with every use

I strongly believe Apple Map will be better than Google Map in one year.

The more iPhones out there, the faster Apple Maps will catch up. Give it just a few months.

Sounds great if you use Apple maps in a city or country with an Apple store. What about the rest of the world ?

With this method it would take apple to fix their map about 10 years!
