Apple Looks to Reduce Illuminated Keyboard Thickness

Apple will reportedly reduce the thickness of the light guide plates for its illuminated keyboards in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, according to DigiTimes.
The plates are current .4mm thick but that will be reduced to 0.25mm in 2013, say supply chain sources.
Since the current injection process for the production of 0.4mm light guide plates has been optimized to its limit, makers utilizing extrusion processes are likely to win orders for 0.25mm light guide plates, the sources indicated. Apple currently sources light guide plates mainly from Japan-based NJK and Taiwan-based Global Lighting Technologies, with the former using an injection process and the latter a extrusion process, the sources noted.
