Microsoft Unveils a New Logo After 25 Years [Video]

Microsoft has unveiled a redesigned logo after 25 years.

It's been 25 years since we've updated the Microsoft logo and now is the perfect time for a change. This is an incredibly exciting year for Microsoft as we prepare to release new versions of nearly all of our products. From Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Xbox services to the next version of Office, you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs. This wave of new releases is not only a reimagining of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning.

The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol. For the logotype, Microsoft is using the Segoe font which is the same font they use in their products and marketing communications. The symbol is "important in a world of digital motion" and its color squares express the company's "diverse portfolio of products".

Squares and colours? It looks nice but it's a two minute job and they probably paid the designers $4 million a piece. Looka like something for kids tbh.

clearly they've 'borrowed' some logo ideas from Google. simplicity, neat, colourful. lol Microsoft.

The new logo is simple and refreshing four squares in a box. Microsoft is going in a bold new direction and the future is looking bright!

Ya the money some of these companies pay for designers to redesign logos it's crazy. For example. When nationwide insurance changed their logo a few years back they ended up paying 15 million when all said and done. 15 freakin million!!! That's rediculous. And the logo didn't even change that much. Google it to see the differences from the old too new and you'll see what I mean.

Nope, Apple's not into squares. Instead they had to redesign it because Apple filed a retroactive patent on all curves! ')
