New York Times Joins WSJ and Bloomberg in Confirming iPad Mini

The New York Times has added its weight to rumors from the WSJ and Bloomberg reporting that Apple will announce an iPad mini this year.

The company is developing a new tablet with a 7.85-inch screen that is likely to sell for significantly less than the latest $499 iPad, with its 9.7-inch display, according to several people with knowledge of the project who declined to be named discussing confidential plans. The product is expected to be announced this year.

The NYT also quotes independent analyst Horace Dediu who suggests Apple might position the new device as a giant iPod touch rather than an iPad mini.

Apple declined to comment.

I hope This ones comes with The phone capability from factory, I am still using my IPad 1 because I have PhoneitIpad from IPhone Islam, and I will not change it until I have phone capability in any other IPad, I have my IPhone, but, using the iPad as a phone is just a great tool. Beside the lack of Bluetooth support. Just connect it to the aux plug in in the car and I play music, have the phone, gps and Internet.... Why apple just not free this option? All the iPads 3g's are able to works as a phone, just need the software....

Is there a reason why don't you just another service to make phone calls and text messages? What are the advantages of paying for a cell line and have it in an iPad vs an iPhone or any other phone? her up.Just t

Given the NYT's track record on reporting facts correctly, I can only conclude that there is now no possibility whatsoever of the iPad Mini coming to fruition.
