Tether Launches HTML5 Based Tethering Solution for iPhone [Video]

Tether.com has launched a new HTML5 tethering solution for the iPhone.

In November 2011, the company released a tethering application on the App Store; however, Apple decided to pull the app within a day of launch. Now Tether has figured out a way to make it work using HTML5.

"It was clear from our initial application iTether, there was enormous demand within the iPhone ecosystem," says Tim Burke, CEO of Tether. "It was unfortunate that Apple decided to remove our application, only 20 hours after we launched. However, this caused us to innovate. Our underlying patent-pending technology behind Tether for iPhone is unlike anything on the market."

Tether's new version for the iPhone is purely based on HTML5 and creates a completely wireless connection over AdHoc. This circumvents the need of buying the application directly from Apple's App Store and allows any iPhone or iPad with a data connection to allow tethering.

Tether is being sold for a yearly fee of $30. You can see it how it works in the video below...

The people at Tether are great. I caught the iOS app for $17 before it got pulled from the App Store, as Apple had already been informed about what they had let through. I love the flexibility of the HTML5 browser-based web app, though. This is great! P.S.: To the peeps who think PDANet is free, it isn't. There is only a free trial.

All you need is pdanet. It also has a feature that hides the fact that you are tethering another device by directing all your internet use to the mobile websites of any current site that you decide to connect to. Also, its FREEEE!!!! you can get it in cydia.

You obviously don't understand the intended target market for this product... This is meant for people who can't go without tethering and therefore need it to be available all the time. If you jailbreak your iphone you can't update it and if you need to update (say if you're a developer and need to make sure your app works in the new firmware or you just like the new features) then you loose your tethering capabilities... For developers and constant travelers who find tethering essential $30 a year is DEFINITELY worth the price. Especially considering that the only real alternative to having secured tethering available at all times in all firmwares is by paying AT&T $30 a month to do so... Mywi is great, but its not for everyone and you can't assume that all people are like you and have the same needs as you do.

So how long have you work for this company. This is only good for people who don't know about jailbreaking... Heck for $2 bucks you can get TetherMe without all the bells and whistles of Mywi. Period.

That video clearly shows he's connected to a different network, pages load way to fast for a tether connection. And video loaded too quick once he click on it. I'm not saying it doesnt work, just pointing out he's either on wifi on the phone or connected to another network other than the cell from the iphone

I also noticed this. You can clearly see the wi-fi in the tray. And the video streamed impossible fast... 5G?
