Watch Your Home From Your iPhone Or iPad

Orbicule has announced the release of Witness 2, a major upgrade to its home surveillance solution for Mac OS X and iOS. The software turns any Mac into a home alarm system, using its FaceTime camera as a motion sensor. If motion is detected, Witness sends mugshots and video to an iPhone or iPad.

"Every 14 seconds, a house is burglarized in the US alone", said Peter Schols, president of Orbicule. "Isn't it ironic that most of these houses contain computers powerful enough to monitor them and alert the owner of the presence of an intruder?" Witness solves this problem by offering customers a Mac-based alarm system that can be used in homes, small businesses or dorm rooms".

NEW FEATURES:

Sneak Peek:
Watch live images from any Mac in your alarm system on your iPhone or iPad.

Auto-activation:
Witness uses the location of your iOS device to automatically arm the alarm when leaving your house, and disarm it upon your return.

Face detection:
Witness can be set to restrict motion detection to human faces. This may come in handy when you have pets running around the house.

Motion detection sensitivity:
Optimize camera settings for a specific environment.

Multiple cameras:
Connect and use up to 3 USB or Firewire cameras per Mac, making it easier to protect larger areas.

Applescript support:
It's now possible to have AppleScripts executed when arming and disarming the alarm, or when motion is detected. For example, you could turn on your music player to startle the thief.

Witness uses advanced motion detection. The alarm system can be controlled and monitored remotely using either the web app, or the free iOS app. These apps allow the user to remotely arm or disarm the alarm and they instantly alert the owner when motion is detected, showing mugshots and video of the intruder.

Pricing and Availability:
Witness is available from Orbicule online and is a free upgrade for all registered users. An account costs $39 USD (one-time fee). Student pricing is $29.

"The software turns any Mac into a home alarm system, using its FaceTime camera as a motion sensor. If motion is detected, Witness sends mugshots and video to an iPhone or iPad." How does sending a picture to your phone considered an home alarm system? Does your mac emit a loud siren type noise that will attract attention from your neighbors? NOT!
