OWC Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G Will Make Your MacBook Air Faster

Upgrading the SSD in your MacBook Air with the OWC Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G results in significant performance improvements, according to a review by AnandTech.

Their tests found that sequential reads and writes doubled in speed and that random write speeds were up to 53 times faster.

You get an absolutely huge performance increase and an option for users who want the entry level 2011 MBAs but with a larger capacity SSD. If your MacBook Air is your primary workhorse, perhaps even your desktop replacement, and you got stuck with a Toshiba SSD the OWC option makes a lot of sense. OWC thankfully provides everything you need in the box to get into your MacBook Air and swap drives.


The site notes that there is small downside to the new SSD. It draws slightly more power that the factory SSDs. This could mean a reduction of about 5% in battery life.
