Mohawk Valley GIS have released the next in their Adirondack adventure series of apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Paddling Central Adirondack Region is a new launch that can be used without phone reception or internet, and is part of an Adirondack series for paddlers, hikers and bikers. The application features a host of comprehensive waterway trail information, as well as maps, local attractions, businesses, lodging, campgrounds and lean-to locations and is a mobile version of NYRecWebMap.com.

Paddling Central Adirondack Region now joins Hiking Central Adirondack Region and Biking Central Adirondack Region in the App Store.

Paddling Central Adirondack Region provides comprehensive information for a dozen waterway trails in New York State's picturesque Adirondack Park. Although blessed with beauty, the 6.1 million acre Park has not been blessed with much cell phone coverage, so the developers have designed the app to work without cell or internet connection after it is downloaded.

Even when users are out in the wilderness, they are able to access the detailed information contained in the app by simply tapping a trail arrow. Each featured waterway has its own PDF document, which is loaded with details such as parking and portage locations, which shorelines to hug in windy conditions, and area flora and fauna one can expect to see.

Additionally, Paddling Central Adirondack Region provides information about locations and phone numbers for area restaurants, lodging, outfitters, shops and attractions.

Naturally, an app of this nature comes with detailed maps and users can decide how they want to display them, selecting from among Street View, Satellite View, Hybrid View and USGS 1:24,000 Topographical View.

These are some of the features found in Paddling Central Adirondack Region:
* Attractive, easy-to-use interface
* Does not require a connection once downloaded
* With reception, can sync with website to get latest KML data
* Includes comprehensive information for 12 waterway trails in the Adirondack Park
* Shows locations of DEC campgrounds and lean-tos
* Selection of map views
* Includes detailed PDF documents of everything one needs to know
* Includes information about local businesses and attractions
* Optional current GPS location display
* App is a mobile version of NY Recreation Webmap

Paddling Central Adirondack Region can provide the paddler peace of mind, giving them access to crucial information while out appreciating so vast an area.

amazing! now only if Mud Pond wasn't such a shitty place to launch a boat, you wouldn't need the damn map for the portage around it. either way though, the nine carries are pretty...
