iPad 3 Retina Display Presents a Challenge for Manufacturers

Producing the iPad 3 Retina Display in mass quantities presents a big challenge to manufacturers, reports CNET.
"They have production plans for 2,048x1,536 displays. Starting in November. But those are only plans at this point," saida source, referring to LG and Samsung.
"It's not a question of making just one. That, of course, can be done. The challenge is making lots of them," the source said. "This is a quantum leap in pixel density. This hasn't been done before."
CNET reports that if manufacturers are not able to hit volume requirements that a 1600x1200 display would be more easily produced; however, we think it's more likely Apple would just forgo the display update until the 2048x1536 screens are possible.
The Retina display is expected to have a brightness of 550 nits which is significantly brighter than the typical laptop which tops out at around 350 nits.
