Samsung Designed the Galaxy Nexus to Bypass Apple Patents

Samsung designed the Galaxy Nexus to bypass Apple patents, according to comments made by Shin Jong-kyun, Samsung's mobile president.

Shin Jong-kyun told YONHAP News that "Now we will avoid everything we can and take patents very seriously."

Patents are very complicated and can be difficult to identify, Shin said, but Samsung tried to ensure that no known patent by Apple is included in the new Android smartphone. Despite such efforts, he could not say with certainty that the Galaxy Nexus, dubbed by media as Google and Samsung's answer to the iPhone 4S, would be entirely safe from Apple's legal offense.

"We will see if (the Galaxy Nexus) will be 100 percent free," from Apple lawsuits, he added.

"I think it is just a start and (the lawsuits) will last for a considerable time," Shin said.
"I don't think there is much gain (from lawsuits against Apple). What we are losing is the pride in our brand."

Google and Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Nexus yesterday. It's the first phone designed for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung is currently making a sphere phone Just to please Apple fanatics. Sure it would be highly impractical and maybe ugly but for the first time in two years Apple trolls will STFU!

Its a phone folks, first and foremost! Dont care if its an Apple design, patent or Android design ,paten, i just want the thing to work properly, have a decent battery life, fit in my pocket so that i can actuall sit down without the need to remove it or it causing me a hernia.and obviously after checking out the wonderful applications it has, it can actuall make a call and keep the signal!!!!! So lets all get over the Apple / Android fixation. lets hope they both dont start designing toilet paper. We'll all be right in the S***T then eh!

Why anyone will buy Androids?? Since they have less applications, less compatible hardware, less charm and costs almost the same???

Less compatible hardware? Could you please elaborate? You can't even change the battery of the iphone. Don't really know what you mean by this... As for the charm, I think everyone can agree that "charm" is highly subjective qualitative, not quantitative, measure and therefore it is up to the individual to determine what they find charming... As for the applications, how many applications do you possibly need? Sure there are more applications, but is there more variety of applications? I think thats what's really important. Yes, the iphone has more applications, but that's just because more developers want to make a quick buck. The end result, more options, but repetitive options. Do you really need hundreds of different fart apps? As for the cost, there is no set cost for android headsets, therefore your comparison is inane... My wife just got a free android headset, whereas I paid about $400 (though I bought it without contract). Furthermore, why do you care about what phone other people are buying? Its seems rather silly don't you think? At the end of the day, Apple and Google are just companies, why should we, the consumers, argue on their behalf?

I changed the battery on my old 3Gs just yesterday. What are you talking about. Cost me $15 including postage and 10 minutes of my time. Granted it isn't pull out, put in, but it wasn't hard.

You are right, you can change the battery of the iPhone. I misspoke. What I meant was pull-in and pull-out. For people who regularly go on business trips having an extra battery to just pop-in when the first one dies is really useful. Sure you can change the battery of the iPhone by unscrewing and opening, but that's more of a replacement. Carrying around a screwdriver and making sure the little screws don't fall on the floor is not really ideal for the frequent traveler. Of course for most one battery would do just fine. Though I personally love having an extra one, especially because I forget to charge frequently!

Looks like a cross breed. The iBerry! Come up with your own designs Samsung...

Meh... I see no problem with a crossbreed between apple and blackberry phones... I mean really, how creative can you get? Iphones are just rectangles... And blackberries, well I guess it depends on the model. What do you want samsung to do, make triangular phones? The fact is, any phone someone makes will look like a phone already made! Phone designs can only vary so much. Especially when most are just black rectangles with touch screens...
