These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on the 4.3.5 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. The Mac version of this tutorial is here. If you are on 4.3.3 or lower make sure you do NOT update to iOS 4.3.5. Use the untethered JailbreakMe instead. You can find the appropriate JailbreakMe tutorial here.
Make sure not to update to iOS 4.3.5 if you need an unlock as one is not yet available. Also please note that this jailbreak is tethered for those on the new bootrom.
Step One Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage
Download RedSn0w 0.9.8b7b from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 4.3.5 firmware from below and place it in the same folder.
Extract the RedSn0w zip file into the same folder.
Step Two Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.
Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.
Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 4.3.5 firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.
Step Three Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware open the Pwnage folder on your desktop and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.
**Windows 7 users need to run RedSn0w as an administrator in Vista compatibility mode. You can do this by right clicking the executable and selecting Properties from the contextual menu
Step Four Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button
Step Five Select the 4.3.5 firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open.
You will be prompted to indicate if this is a newer model of the iPhone 3GS. If you're not sure you can determine follow this tutorial to determine which bootrom you have.
Step Six Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.
Step Seven RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data
Step Eight From this window you can select the jailbreak options you would like. Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button to continue
Step Nine Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button
Step Ten RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. You can find more help with DFU mode here
Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.
Step Eleven Your iPhone will now reboot
Step Twelve RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.
Step Thirteen Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.
*As usual a big thanks to the iPhone Dev-Team for their hard work and contribution to the iPhone community. **Windows 7 users can try running RedSn0w as an administrator in Windows Vista or XP compatibility mode if you experience any difficulties.
BOOT TETHERED Once RedSn0w has finished jailbreaking your device you will need to boot it tethered if you have a newer iPhone. Rerun RedSn0w and this time select Just boot tethered right now from the list of options instead of installing Cydia.

When I try and restore in iTunes using 2,1_4.3.5_8L1 I keep getting errors and cannot make it past the iTunes restore phase.
Where's my flaw?
Hi, I just baught a 3GS 32Gb Iphone and it's already unlocked in another country, now i'm using it with a different sim which works great but it's not jailbroken ( no cydia installed ), model number is MC133B and it's also Old boot.
I was wondering if i jailbreak my iphone will it be locked again? and how can i check if it is factory unlocked.
Note that the IOS is 4.3.5 and BB 05.16.02. that's why i'm worried about jailbreaking it coz if it's locked i will be stuck in this unlockable baseband and i'll have to upgrade to BB 6.15 and loose my GPS which i don't want to.
Any help?!
I do all steps here, but when the steps eleven start appears in the redsnow screen the info"Exploiting with limera1n" and nots happening...i try to start the redsnow procees agains and continue the same...what i need to do?
i have a iphne 3gs amd before this its in the version 4.3.5.
tks
I have a 3gs 32gb unlocked with ipad baseband. If use this method to jailbreak it do you think that i will still be able to unlock it through redsnow ? I don't know if I update to 4.3.5 will update the modemfirmware.
I wrote earlier too ... is cydia not loading for some people? I wnet through the whole process and then cydia comes up as a white icon.
Is iclarified deleting comments??!!
try running redsn0w again and now just select the "just boot tethered right now" option. you will be able to open cydia icon after the process is completed, but the unlock isn't workign yet.
I would like to warn you all that redsnow does not work with 4.3.5 yet as their website says. They are just fooling people and taking money. you have to downgrade to a lower version so that jailbreak and unlock both happen successfully.
Step Five says to select the 4.3.5 firmware but the picture shows you selecting 4.3.4. Im assuming its 4.3.4 you mean seeing as your instructinos have you download it for some reason
