Verizon iPhone 4 Lines Are 'Laughably Short'

BusinessInsider is reporting that lineups for the Verizon iPhone 4 have been underwhelming.

The lines, so far, are not very long. (And some are laughably short.) But that's not entirely surprising, given that it is FREEZING outside in many cities; that online pre-orders have already started shipping to peoples' homes and offices; and that this is only kind-of halfway a new iPhone.

RBC Capital's Mike Abramsky offered some reasons for why the Verizon iPhone 4 launch might not perform as well as the AT&T one.
● The iPhone 4 at Verizon is new, but not novel (vs. when AT&T first launched its version of the iPhone 4).
● A lot of existing Verizon customers with Google (GOOG) Android phones are still on contract.
● AT&T offered customers an early upgrade option; Verizon did not.
● There are a lot of AT&T iPhone owners who might like to switch, but are still on contract.
● Verizon's data plan ($30/mos.) is more expensive than AT&T's $25 and $15 offerings.
● AT&T's first-quarter iPhone 4 sales covered 13 weeks vs. Verizon's 7 weeks.
● Some potential Verizon customers are holding out for the iPhone 5, expected to arrive this summer.

It is a bit strange that the line ups are so short considering Verizon announced its most successful first day of sales in the history of the company after it sold out of iPhone 4 pre-orders in less than one day.

I'm an Att user I have three lines I pay for two of which are iPhones. Where I work te network is ok where I live its a piece of shit and un-reliable. If verizon offered some kind of phone trade in I MAY consider breaking contract. Or if they offered some kind of rebate or deal that could cover costs for breaking three contracts and buying three new phones myself and probably millions of other users would leave Att tomorrow.

they offer trade ins for your att phones, they offer 280 for the 32 gig iphone and 190 for the 16

I just love all the excuses. Thing is, the Verizon iPhone was rushed out, is an outdated phone (no LTE, huh?), will be even more outdated in 5 months, and aren't Verizon customers the people who would always love to ask us "does your iPhone have that antenna problem"?

One would think a multi million dollar corporation has ideas about how to market a product already considered God's toy, or at least bears the budget to hire professional marketing firms. I know I don't want a last year model iphone with less functions, higher price, international incompatibility, expensive data plans. Oh, this will give the big blue such an advantage, I can already imagine the new commercials...

i agree with you i might get some drope call so what i wont die i usually use my phone for txt and internet and i have 0 complaints for that internet is so fast i love iphone and att is great with me i get every new iphone every year just sell my old iphone do a early upgrade and still keep a few cash in my pocket i love att

Anyone could have told you this. Verizon had absolutely no specials going like early upgrade options, and on top of that, the iPhone 5 will be out in a few months, so why would you buy the iPhone 4 on Verizon's network other than "I can't wait any longer and need it right now!". On a side note, if Verizon had a special to get AT&T iPhone users over to Verizon I'm sure you'd see a ton flock over. I however, will not buy the iPhone on Verizon until it is a 4G version and can handle voice and data at the same time.

I'm not understanding this. Is Verizon's network ONLY CDMA based? It's not an HSPA Network like once BELL and TELUS here in Canada? Both those networks were once ONLY CDMA based, however with HSPA, All new phones now have a SIM card, and both networks can handle data and voice flawlessly. Verizon's network can't do this? Is Sprints network the same?

You are correct, Verizon and Sprint are currently only CDMA based, but Verizon is in the middle of rolling out their 4G LTE network. Verizon's 4G LTE network can only handle data at the moment, as they are working on getting the voice part working (so no voice and data at the same time until they get that working or make a phone with 4G LTE support and 3G CDMA support to do voice on 3G and data on 4G). Sprint also has a 4G network, but I don't really know anything about it, I think it's something they created, I'm not sure if it's based on LTE or not.

Sprint 4G Network is powered by Clearwireless and they dont have 4G everywhere only few metropolitian city. I better stick to att atleast i can go internationally and can switch my sim card :) i barely have problem with att and in Manhattan i never had drop calls and service is excellent through out NYC ;) and last Verizon is expensive compare to att.
