MuscleNerd has announced that the new Apple TV has been jailbroken using SHAtter.

This is great news, AppleTV needs definetely support for matroska .mkv-files and something like plex would be cool. Jailbreak means that developers can now code useful apps for AppleTv. Going to buy one now!

Why would anyone want to jailbreak the Apple TV? Not like you can play you ipad game on your TV unless somehow you have a touchscreen.

Yeah, I agree. Looks great but any updates on the Iphone 4.1 jailbreak? It looks to me that Apple will release the 4.2 ios update before the SHAtter exploit is released. Don't hold your breath everyone. Wait until November...

once again the firmware can NOT patch the SHatter jailbreak. That's what makes it so special it's exploiting the code IN the hardware. The only way for apple to patch it would be to swap out your handset. 4.1 4.2 4.99 it doesn't matter SHAtter would be a jailbreak for life solution. What they are waiting for is packaging it and then testing its stability before a huge release.
