Video Mocks iOS 4 Performance on the iPhone 3G

Posted July 23, 2010 at 4:26pm by iClarified
Check out this video parody that highlights the issues iPhone 3G owners are facing on iOS 4.

According to TUAW, Apple's support forums are buzzing like an angry hornet's nest on reports that iOS 4 has all but crippled users' iPhone 3Gs. By far the most-reported problem is generalized slowness; iOS 4 runs so slowly on many people's iPhone 3Gs that the phones are almost unusable. The video [below], though a parody, is actually a fair representation of what's been happening to the iPhone 3G under iOS 4.

Hit the link below for some suggestions on improving the situation.

I have the same slowness on my 3G since iOS 4. Till now the only solution I found is to restart the iPhone every few days to gain the speed back. I think this is some kind of a memory (or other resources) leak. It also cause the battery to drain faster. I'm pretty sure Apple will be able to fix it in later software updates.

thankfully managed to downgrade to 3.1.3, much faster again, but now still no wifi, have been advised that its because of the bootrom that cant be downgraded :(.. so will need to wait now for a stable ios4 to come out .. apple should now develop a separate stable ios for the 3G and below

Not too mention the thousands of people who have lost wifi (search the apple forums), poor 3G (and sometimes non existent) signal, even after downgrading my iPhone is now well and truly broken .. I just hope that a future software update fixes things

Funny but true. I had to downgrade my 3G from 4.0 to 3.1.2. Big a$$ mistake for making 4.0 for the 3G.

are you actually using an iphone 3G? not 3GS.. i've seen two 3G's running 4.0 and performance is dire on both of them, really poor from apple

I know this story all too well, this was a flop and 4.0 was never meant to run on 3G in the first place!! Why in the world did Apple even bother?

If your having this kind of trouble on i(P)OS4, just downgrade! I tried iOS4 on my 3G for less than a week and decided to downgrade. Just make sure you use an older version of iTunes and enter DFU mode, the only thing I liked about the new OS is the folders, thats it, but wasnt worth the lag.

I believe now you cannot downgrade it unless n untill u have shsh blob, .. do a google on that or see this http://www.iphonehacks.com/2010/07/dev-team-apple-has-started-soft-shsh-blob-checks-with-ios-4.html ... basically when u restore a custom firmware , apple use to allow it, but now if u have moved to a higher version apple doesn't allow u to downgrade to a lower version :-( that's what is my understanding i also am experiencing too much of performance issue on 3g :-(

almiami - July 24, 2010 at 10:48am
that's only on 3Gs. 3G is good to downgrade I know you can downgrade but i hear issues about rejailbreaking after downgrading. so i'm looking for someone that did it without issues. thanks

hmmm, that's interesting , i guess now i can link these dots , here is the seq. which i followed 1) when os 4.0 was released i jail-broke my 3g in June using redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-4 , & at that i selected multi tasking which really hitted phone performance badly, at that time i also realised that my 3g data plan stopped working. 2) so i re-jailbroked it again in 1st week of july but with higher version of jailbreak tool i.e. redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-5 instead of redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-4 This solved the problem of 3g data plan , but performance is still bad even though i deselected multi tasking this time. Now i am not sure , when u say people r facing problem , r u referring to 3g data plan issue which was fixed in higher version of red snow ? but it's really a good news that 3g guys can downgrade .. need to dig up some more forums.

hi almiami , 1) To downgrade from iOS 4.0 to OS 3.1.3, follow steps mentioned at http://www.redmondpie.com/downgrade-ios-4-iphone-3gs-3g-and-ipod-touch-to-iphone-3.1.3-3.1.2-how-to-guide/ 2) Also make sure to install libusb file via setup libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.2.exe and run it under compatibility mode i.e. win xp + sp2 you can download the libusb setup file from http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/07/irecovery-iphone-recovery-mode-loop-restart/ i did this whole exercise on win 7, and for some unknown reason my win 7 started coming up with blue screen of death the moment i use to shutdown windows... nevertheless i uninstalled this libusb thing after the complete exercise and it did solved my win problem. 3) Note step 2 is very important , once step 1 and 2 is done, ur phone would boot in recovery mode, you can come out of recovery mode via a software called RecBoot which was downloaded as part of step 1 now after all this was done i saw even though i had 3g icon, but data plan was not working, if u also face the same issue, just follow instructions at http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2009/08/29/could-not-activate-cellular-data-network-you-are-not-subscribed-to-a-cellular-data-service/ Now as far as jailbreak and unlock is concerned , for jailbreak i followed this tutorial https://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=7443 and for unlock i followed this tutorial http://www.redmondpie.com/unlock-05.13.04-05.12.01-on-iphone-3gs-ios-4-with-ultrasn0w-0.93/ almiami at this point of time i believe my phone is unlocked, but i will have to stamp it when i use some diff service provider sim,i used my wife cell sim and it worked, but we r on same service provider, so i am not very sure whether unlock was successful. Most likely it would have been successful. Also 1 more imp. point which i read on these links is that u cannot restore ur backup which was taken when u were on os4, however u can restore a backup which was taken via os 3.x. I did not restored the backup rather i imported my contacts which were in outlook and recreated song playlist.

Clearly you can't read the title, which states that it's a 3g.

Same problem on my 3Gs with 4.0.1. Solution: DFU mode restore. It seems there is some rogue process left running in the background which kills battery life and responsiveness after a 3.x to 4.x upgrade. DFU restore fixes it.
