Apple Partnering With LG on Smart Lock, Doorbell, Thermostat, and Cameras [Report]

Apple is working with LG on a range of smart home accessories, including a video doorbell, smart lock, thermostat, and security cameras, according to Bloomberg.

The products will carry LG branding, with the South Korean company handling manufacturing and support. The lineup also includes a temperature sensor, while the cameras come in indoor, outdoor, and floodlight versions.

Those accessories are not expected to reach consumers for at least a few more months. They would work with the smart home hub, upgraded HomePod mini, and new Apple TV planned for October 13.

Regulatory filings already name the devices, though they do not mention Apple's involvement. A public UL verification record lists an LG Video Doorbell Wired, LG Floodlight Cam, LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In, and LG Indoor Cam Plug-In. Photos and more detailed information in the filings are being kept confidential until early 2027.

Many of the accessories support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter. The deadbolt also includes ultra-wideband connectivity, allowing the door to unlock automatically as a user approaches.

The upcoming home hub is expected to put smart home controls, FaceTime, music, and personalized information on a roughly six-inch square display. Countertop and wall-mounted versions are in development.

Bloomberg describes the new ecosystem as a reboot of HomeKit, bringing Apple and LG into closer competition with Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest. The partnership lets Apple shape designs, tailor features, and oversee engineering without taking on the full cost of producing and supporting every accessory. Similar behind-the-scenes arrangements have involved Belkin and Logitech, and Apple previously worked with LG on external monitors for its Macs.

Separate from the LG lineup, Apple is also planning its own privacy-focused home-monitoring device, a home hub with a robotic arm, and an in-home security monitoring service. Both companies declined to comment on the partnership.

LG was busted for recording when on and off in its TV’s. How is Apple going to spin that one when it comes to privacy? There’s too much invasion of privacy as it is.
