Apple has hired former Amazon Devices CTO Jon McCormack as a VP of Software, reports Bloomberg.
McCormack previously led software for HP Inc., according to his LinkedIn profile. Before that, he was an executive in Google’s Advanced Technology and Products group. He spent several years at Amazon.com Inc. as chief technology officer of the devices group and a vice president of software for Kindle gadgets. Alongside his tech work, McCormack co-founded an organization that helps operate schools in Kenya.
News of the hire comes just days after we learned that Apple hired John Giannandrea, Google's Chief of Search of AI, to lead its machine learning and A.I. efforts.
Apple's personal assistant, Siri, and smart speaker, HomePod, have been widely criticized for trailing behind their rivals. Hopefully these hires will help the company's efforts.
