Apple's hardware roadmap for late 2025 and early 2026 is coming into sharper focus, with new M5-powered Macs and two external monitors reportedly nearing mass production. In his latest newsletter, Mark Gurman also points to a new budget iPhone and refreshed iPads arriving in the first half of next year.
Gurman reports that new MacBook Pro models (codenamed J714 and J716) and MacBook Air models (J813 and J815) are approaching a key stage of development. These devices are expected between the end of this year and the first quarter of next year, aligning with a previously leaked product roadmap that identified the same Mac codenames. The M5 MacBook Pro will reportedly be the last to feature the current design before a major overhaul introduces OLED displays.
Also nearing production are two new Mac monitors, codenamed J427 and J527, with a similar release window. The displays have also been spotted in code leaks, with one expected to be a new Studio Display.
Looking to the first half of next year, Apple is planning to launch the iPhone 17e, a new low-end iPad, and an updated iPad Air. This timeline is consistent with a previous report from Gurman pointing to a spring debut. The updated iPad Air is expected to move from the M3 to the M4 chip, while the iPhone 17e is rumored to gain the A19 processor and a Dynamic Island design.
As for Apple's iPhone strategy, Gurman notes that the current lineup offers little difference between the iPhone 16 and budget 16e, making the $200 price gap difficult to justify. With the next generation, however, the iPhone 17 will reportedly be "significantly better" than the iPhone 17e, a move that could create clearer separation between tiers for customers.
