Apple is planning to launch a paid subscription service called "Health+" next year, according to a new report from Mark Gurman. In a newsletter to subscribers, Gurman describes the service as an AI-powered health coach that would provide nutrition planning and medical suggestions. It is part of a broader strategy to expand Apple's services revenue as key parts of its business face growing regulatory pressure.
The upcoming Health+ service is a key component of a previously reported revamp of the Health app. Gurman notes that Apple is under pressure to find new revenue streams as its services division — the company's fastest-growing and most profitable business outside the iPhone — faces significant headwinds. Recent court rulings have hobbled the in-app purchase model in the U.S., and the company's lucrative search deal with Google, worth an estimated $20 billion annually, could be dismantled by a judge. According to the report, nearly 40% of Apple's services revenue could be at risk.
The company is already taking steps to counteract these potential losses. Last month, it launched AppleCare One, a new bundled protection plan that covers three devices for $20 per month. Apple also recently raised the price of Apple TV+ from $9.99 to $12.99 per month, a move Gurman suggests is a stretch given the service's smaller catalog compared to rivals.
While the new Health+ service is planned for next year, its most advanced features will likely depend on the success of Apple's broader AI initiatives. The company has faced well-documented struggles in the space, and its most advanced AI-powered Siri features have now been delayed until 2026.
