A new audio product from Apple might be on the way, after an unreleased Bluetooth ID was spotted in the company's code. The find, reported by MacRumors, is reigniting talk about the rumored AirPods Pro 3 and the future of Apple's audio lineup.
The new identifier, 8239, was found in updated code related to device syncing and doesn't match any of Apple's current AirPods or Beats products. For reference, the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C use the Bluetooth ID 8228. While no other product details were revealed, the appearance of this new ID suggests another audio device is in development.
This comes amid mixed reports about when the AirPods Pro 3 might launch. Some rumors point to a release later this year with a refreshed design and new health features. Others are more cautious. Jeff Pu of GFHK Tech Research recently said the AirPods Pro 3 won't go into mass production until 2026, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has echoed a similar timeline.
Looking further out, Apple is also said to be working on AirPods with built-in cameras, possibly for a 2027 launch. Whether the newly found product ID points to AirPods Pro 3 or something entirely different, it's clear Apple has more in store for its audio lineup.
