WhatsApp Rolls Out Private AI Summaries for Unread Chats

WhatsApp has introduced a new "Private Message Summaries" feature, using Meta AI to help users quickly catch up on unread messages. The update is designed to privately summarize long chat threads, giving you the gist of a conversation without needing to read through every message.

The new feature uses what WhatsApp calls "Private Processing" technology, which allows Meta AI to generate a summary without Meta or WhatsApp ever seeing the content of your messages. Other participants in the chat will also not be aware that you've used the feature, ensuring your privacy is protected throughout the process.




This latest update follows a string of other new features the company has rolled out recently. WhatsApp notes that the AI summaries are optional and turned off by default. Users can choose whether to use them and can manage which chats can be used for AI features through Advanced Chat Privacy settings.

Message Summaries is beginning to roll out in the English language to users in the United States. WhatsApp says it hopes to bring the feature to other languages and countries later this year.
