iPhone 17 Pro Max to Feature Smaller Dynamic Island With New Face ID Technology [Rumor]

Apple's next generation iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a smaller dynamic island, according to a new rumor from Digital Chat Station.

In a post on Weibo, the leaker claims the smaller dynamic island is a result of a new metalens system for Face ID. This technology incorporates flat, ultra-thin lenses with microscopic structures that can focus light more precisely than traditional curved lenses.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a metalens system, primarily integrating the Face ID Rx and Tx components to reduce the size and thickness of the structural elements. As a result, the Dynamic Island will become even smaller. This technology will also be applied to the standard iPad Pro and the rumored foldable iPad (another key detail).


Apple's ultimate goal remains under-display 3D facial recognition, but that will take several more generations. For now, they're gradually shrinking the Dynamic Island. 🤲

This is at least the third report we've seen regarding the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17. Last year, Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu also claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would utilize MetaLens technology for Face ID. Pu predicted that Apple's adoption of MetaLens technology would enhance Face ID accuracy and speed, as well as result in a significantly narrower Pro Max Dynamic Island.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has refuted claims of a smaller Dynamic Island, stating last month, "I expect the Dynamic Island size to remain largely unchanged across the 2H25 iPhone 17 series."

In addition to his Dynamic Island claim, Digital Chat Station has also predicted that Apple is planning to upgrade both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 24MP front camera and three 48MP rear cameras.


Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup at the usual time this fall. Rumors suggest it will drop the iPhone 17 Plus in favor of a new iPhone 17 Air model.
