Apple's gradual rollout of iOS 18 with Apple Intelligence is leading to delays in the development of iOS 19, according to a new report from Mark Gurman.
In a post on X, Gurman notes that the lengthy rollout of iOS 18 features could lead to a similar situation for Apple's next operating system.
I continue to hear that the gradual rollout of features across iOS 18 to iOS 18.4 is leading to delays of some features scheduled for iOS 19. That will lead to a long term rollout of features next cycle as well. Engineers are stuck working on iOS 18 projects when they'd usually already be on to the following OS.
Yesterday, Apple released iOS 18.2, a major update that brings ChatGPT, Genmoji, Image Playground and other Apple Intelligence features to iPhone. Notably, there are significant iOS 18 features still to debut, including updates to Siri. Those features will arrive in iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4 updates expected in the first quarter of 2025.
