Leaker Refutes Rumor Apple is Switching to Aluminum Frame for iPhone 17 Pro

An often accurate leaker is refuting recent rumors that Apple will switch to an aluminum frame for the iPhone 17 Pro.

In a post on Weibo, leaker Instant Digital scoffed at the idea that Apple would abandon a premium titanium frame for its flagship model.

Of course, the 17 Pro is still titanium. Why would anyone believe it's been changed to aluminum? Think about it—it's impossible. Looking back at recent iPhones, Apple has always highlighted the premium frame materials of the Pro series as a key selling point, from "surgical-grade stainless steel" to "titanium." If they switched to aluminum, how would they hype it up?

Instant Digital's post follows a rumor from The Information last month which claimed that the entire iPhone 17 lineup would move to aluminum frames. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro was rumored to feature a larger aluminum camera bump.

The back of the Pro and Pro Max models will feature a new part-aluminum, part-glass design. The top of the back will comprise a larger rectangular camera bump made of aluminum rather than traditional 3D glass. The bottom half will remain glass to accommodate wireless charging, two people said.

While Apple may have plans to switch to aluminum, it could also simply be prototyping new designs. The iPhone 17 lineup isn't expected to debut until September 2025. Though Instant Digital doesn't share any specific knowledge of Apple's plan here, the leaker has been correct on numerous predictions including the yellow iPhone 14, frosted back glass for iPhone 15, and the Camera Control button for iPhone 16.
