Apple has quietly upgraded the display on the new M4 MacBook Pro with quantum dot technology, according to a new report from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).
In a post on X, Young reveals that the MacBook Pro display now uses QD film instead of KSF phosphor film.
-----
Big Apple display news, they have adopted quantum dots for the first time. The latest MacBook Pro's (M4) use a quantum dot (QD) film rather than a red KSF phosphor film.
In the past, Apple went with the KSF solution due to better efficiency and lack of cadmium (Cd), but the latest Cd-free QD films are very efficient, feature as good or better color gamut and better motion performance.
-----
In addition to the adoption of quantum dot technology, Apple has also made the display significantly brighter. The M3 MacBook Pro had a standard outdoor brightness of up to 600 nits, but the new M4 MacBook Pro can deliver 1,000 nits of standard brightness when outdoors. Both models have a peak brightness of 1,600 nits.
